Review and Discussion on Overturning of Bodies by Earthquake Motions.

Y.Ishiyama; June, 1980. 115p.

Abstract

Overturning of bodies has been one of the simplest and most familiar phenomena during earthquake motions, but it is extremely difficult to give analytical explanation to it. Many researchers have tried to solve this problem for over a hundred of years but the exact solution have not be obtained so far.

In this paper, review on the previous researches and discussion on the following items are included in order to facilitate the future researches for this subject.

(1) Characteristics of overturning
(2) Equations of motions
(3) Solutions of equations
(4) Period of rocking motion
(5) Effects of acceleration, velocity and displacement
(6) Effects of friction
(7) Motion after impact
(8) Stochastic considerations
