Large-scale Structure Testing Laboratory

Two reaction walls for lateral loading and steel trames for vertical loading
Two reaction walls for lateral loading and steel frames for vertical loading

This laboratory experimentally investigates the seismic safety of building structures using a full-scale test building. The test structure installed in the laboratory is constructed with the reaction floors,(floor A 20m(width)x25m(length); floor B 15mx20m) together with two 25m-high reaction walls crossed at right angles by another 15.5m-high wall. A full-scale seven-story bui1ding with a maximum floor area of 400m can be tested. The horizontal loading to a test building is carried out using actuators which are attached to the reaction wall. Since these actuators are accurately controlled by a computer, the test building is forced to move just as an actual building moves when subjected to a real earthquake monition. Through this test method named as pseudo-dynamic test, the dynamic behavior of a building during an earthquake can be investigated quite in detail.
