Abstract

Two specific experiments were performed utilizing the world's largest new-born shaking table facility. The most recent style of prefabricated unit house was selected as a vibration test specimen in a pilot test for demonstrating the capability of these facilities.

After the scope of the equipment is explained, the first vibration tests which were used to obtain the relation between the maximum acceleration value and Intensity Scale of J.M.A.(Japan Metrological Agency) are introduced. In the second experiment the test specimen was severely shaken with the shaking table controlled to follow a real strong motion accelerogram. This test specimen was finally subjected to a sinusoidal waves of large amplitude, which brought the test specimen to structural rupture. An analytical evaluation of the destructive power of earthquake motions concludes this paper.
